Welcome
Children in Nepal are orphaned and abandoned for various reasons. Poor socio-economic status, domestic violence, untimely demise of their parents and natural disasters are the main reasons, amongst others. Unfortunately, thousands of these children are forced to adopt a very miserable life as a street-children ("KHATE"), thereby becoming quite vulnerable to drugs, trafficking, exploitation and other criminal activities, or to end up as domestic slaves.
Sonrisa Orphanage Nepal (SON) is a non-profit, non-political and non-governmental organization established in January 2007 with the mission of helping the orphaned, abandoned and destitute children in every way so that they can lead the normal life that we all are entitled to. The Children at SON come from different regions of Nepal and have been brought to us by various governmental bodies. Most of the children currently living a Sonrisa became orphans due to untimely demise of their parents, while some are victims of domestic violence.
[ SON is registered at the District Administration Office (DAO), the District Children Welfare Committee (DCWC), the District Development Committee (DDC) and the Social Welfare Council (SWC). ]
